Cambodia rejects claims of airport closures, border checkpoint restrictions

PHNOM PENH, May 26 — Cambodia has rejected claims that it had temporarily closed airports and placed land border checkpoints under restrictions.

Xinhua reported that the Interior Ministry said that information had circulated on social media yesterday, claiming that Cambodia’s international airports had been temporarily closed to all incoming travellers and that land border checkpoints would be placed under tighter restrictions beginning May 26.

The post further alleged that all foreign nationals under 40, regardless of gender, would be barred from entering Cambodia, even if they held valid visas or business documents.

It "categorically rejects these fabricated claims and considers such dissemination to be false and misleading information intended to distort the truth, create confusion among the international public, and damage Cambodia's reputation as a country that does not discriminate against any nationality in its international relations".

"The Ministry would like to clarify that the Cambodian Immigration Police have no policy restricting or prohibiting legally documented foreign nationals under the age of 40 from entering Cambodia," the ministry said in a statement.

All foreign nationals who meet the legal entry requirements continue to be warmly welcomed to Cambodia, particularly tourists, investors, businesspeople, traders, and other foreign workers.

It added that all major international border checkpoints across Cambodia, including both air and land entry points, are operating normally and continue to process arrivals and departures in accordance with standard procedures.

"There have been no changes or restrictions affecting the travel of foreign nationals entering or leaving Cambodia," the ministry said.
