SHAH ALAM, May 19 — Cable theft cases in Selangor are becoming increasingly serious, with incidents now affecting operational systems at the Sri Muda Flood Mitigation Scheme, resulting in estimated losses of up to RM200,000.
State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato' Izham Hashim said the repeated incidents not only involve high replacement costs, but also have a major impact on the smooth operation of flood mitigation facilities.
The issue has already been discussed with the Selangor police to identify more effective solutions, as cable theft incidents continue to escalate.
“These cable theft incidents are very serious, and we have already held discussions with Selangor police to identify ways to resolve the issue.
“This phenomenon is becoming more widespread and is having a major impact on the state government, not only in terms of replacement costs but also in disrupting the operations of the flood mitigation scheme,” he said.
Izham was speaking to the media after inspecting the Anak Sungai Damansara Flood Mitigation Scheme project today.
He added that the problem has become increasingly rampant to the extent that it is affecting the smooth operation of the facilities, particularly when the electricity supply is disrupted.
“Without electricity, the systems at the flood mitigation scheme cannot operate smoothly as usual,” Izham said.
