GSF 2.0 mission enters final phase with 54 ships headed for Gaza

SEPANG, May 14 — Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 has entered the final phase of its mission with 54 ships having departed Turkiye’s Marmaris Port for Palestine’s Gaza at about 7.30pm Malaysian time today.

Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) director-general Datuk Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby said the voyage involves nearly 500 activists from 45 countries, mobilised by various global humanitarian groups.

“This final phase voyage is also taking place a day before the Nakba event, on May 15, 1948, 78 years ago,” he said at a press conference here today, referring to the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians by Israel, which violently displaced them and dispossessed them of their land, property, and belongings.

Sani Araby said SNCC confirmed that more than 40 participants from six countries — Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines — are taking part in the voyage.

He said that of the total, 29 Malaysian participants aged between 22 and 58, comprising professionals from various fields, are on the journey from Marmaris.

According to Sani Araby, five ships from the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) have also joined the mission.

He said three Malaysian participants — Mohamad Aqil Asmadi, Mohamad Zurini Karim and Hajah Sereba Mustafa Al-Bakri — would be coming home to strengthen SNCC’s field operations.

He also said the SNCC has revised the radii of the yellow and red zones near Gaza based on the latest security risk analysis.

“Based on the current assessment, the route from Marmaris up to 30 nautical miles is classified as the green zone, while the area between 30 nautical miles and 150 nautical miles is under the yellow zone.

“Subsequently, the route beginning from 150 nautical miles until entry into Gaza waters is now categorised as the red zone, which carries the most critical level of security risk throughout this mission’s voyage,” Sani Araby said.
