SHAH ALAM, May 14 — A motorcyclist was seriously injured after being hit by a car driven by a drunk man who was travelling against traffic for about 3.5 kilometres along Persiaran Kota, Klang early yesterday morning.
Klang Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Lim Jit Huey said the accident involving a Perodua Bezza and a motorcycle occurred at about 12.30 am.
According to initial investigations, the car was driven by a local man in his 30s from Port Klang towards Shah Alam before the incident occurred.
“Due to the impact, the motorcyclist in his 20s was thrown from his bike and suffered serious injuries to his body and right leg.
“The victim is receiving critical treatment at the Red Zone of Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR), Klang, while the car driver sustained only minor injuries,” he said in a statement today.
Lim said initial screening tests found the driver positive for alcohol and he was subsequently arrested for further action.
“A remand application was obtained from the Klang Magistrate’s Court until tomorrow to assist investigations,” he said.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 44(1A) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs causing injury.
“Members of the public with information or who witnessed the incident are urged to come forward to assist investigations.
“All road users are reminded to always obey traffic laws and drive responsibly to avoid unwanted tragedies,” he said.
