SHAH ALAM, May 1 — The government aims to increase workers' median monthly wage to RM3,500 by 2030, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan announced today.
He said the target is also supported by efforts to raise employees’ compensation to 40 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP), Berita Harian reported.
To achieve this goal, he said the Human Resources Ministry (KESUMA) will enhance the role of the National Wages Consultative Council, including setting starting salaries for graduates and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) leavers.
“This is not a dream. This is a plan that is being implemented,” he said when speaking at the 2026 National Workers’ Day celebration in Kuala Lumpur today, as quoted by the local Malay daily.
The event was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Cabinet ministers, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
