KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 — A syndicate involved in the smuggling, distribution, and sale of frozen food has been crippled after authorities raided three premises in Kepong today, with total seizures estimated at RM546,991.50.
The integrated operation, codenamed ‘Ops Taring Chiller' and conducted at 10.50am, was led by the Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department’s Wildlife Crime Bureau/Special Intelligence Investigation (WCB/PSK)
WCB/PSK commander SAC Datuk Mohd Zaki Ashar said the raids were conducted at three different locations at the Kepong Entrepreneurs Park and Sri Edaran Light Industrial Park.
“As a result of the raids, police arrested two men, who are the owners of the premises, and five male Myanmar workers for not having valid identification documents.
“We also seized 15,205.30kg of pork carcasses and 271.03kg of frozen duck meat suspected to have been imported from unauthorised countries, with the value of the seized meat amounting to RM541,671.50,” he told the media.
The raids also involved cooperation from the Veterinary Services Department (DVS), the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Kuala Lumpur Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN).
In addition, KPDN seized controlled items believed to have been stored without permission for business purposes, namely 1,196kg of cooking oil and 110kg of flour, along with two freezers.
Meanwhile, DBKL issued three compound notices worth RM4,500 to managers of the premises for licensing offences and obstruction of public pathways.
All seized frozen animal products have been handed over to the DVS for further action under Section 5 of the Animals Act 1953.
All detained individuals have been handed over to the Sentul police for investigations under Section 55B and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
