SHAH ALAM, April 29 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj granted an audience to Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari at Istana Bukit Kayangan today over the organisation of the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA).
Also in attendance was the National Sports Council's Director-General Jefri Ngadirin. The meeting focused on preparations for hosting the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA), with Selangor as the host state.
The Selangor Royal Office said the Ruler expressed satisfaction with the meeting's outcome and the organisers’ efforts to adopt cost-saving measures in light of current economic conditions.
“His Royal Highness is pleased with the outcome of the meeting and satisfied with the organisers’ efforts to reduce expenditure given the current economic environment,” it said in a Facebook post.
During the audience, Sultan Sharafuddin also emphasised that all spending for this edition of SUKMA should focus only on essential matters.
“His Royal Highness also stressed that priority should be given to the development of sports and young athletes at the local level,” said the office.
