SHAH ALAM, April 28 — The Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC) continues to play a key role in strengthening youth employability by fostering collaboration with major industry players, creating strong job opportunities for those with technical and vocational education and training (TVET) skills.
State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said state-led initiatives are helping to bridge the gap between skilled youth and potential employers with structured programmes and industry linkages.
“While current youth-focused initiatives are on the right track, improvements are needed to ensure they are more inclusive, relevant and capable of delivering higher impact.
“There is a need to enhance the overall implementation so our youth are better equipped to compete in today’s evolving economic landscape,” he said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
Moreover, Najwan said the state is looking to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) in designing programmes for young entrepreneurs, especially in marketing these programmes, to strengthen youth competitiveness.
“There are also plans to introduce basic digital skills workshops, covering areas such as social media marketing, e-commerce and exposure to emerging technologies like AI, which are increasingly relevant in the modern job market,” he said.
Additionally, he highlighted that youth-driven community programmes, though often smaller in scale, continue to deliver meaningful impact at the grassroots level.
Najwan also mentioned the possibility of monitoring cybercafes in collaboration with local authorities (PBT), including reviewing the type of content and services offered, to ensure a safe and productive environment for young users.
