SHAH ALAM, April 28 — Selangor is planning to reclaim land previously allocated to Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) for the construction of treatment plants, following changes in technological requirements.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said doing so is important to enable the land to be repurposed for future development, particularly in locations identified as strategic.
“The state government has listed all land previously allocated for IWK plants where technological changes mean the facilities are no longer required.
“We have reviewed the land that was handed over to the Federal government for the construction of treatment plants…and we are in the process of reclaiming it.
“This is because some of these areas are highly strategic and can be developed for broader benefit,” he said during the winding-up session of the motion of thanks for the royal address of the Sultan of Selangor during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting today.
Amirudin also reminded the local authorities not to leave development planning entirely to developers.
“In 2008, then-menteri besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim cautioned that planning departments must act as planners, rather than allowing developers to dictate development.
“That is why a comprehensive view is needed, along with reforms at the local authority level,” he said.
