SHAH ALAM, April 27 — Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari will meet Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil this afternoon following a viral social media post alleged to have insulted the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.
The Menteri Besar's political secretary Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad said a police report has also been lodged, urging for investigations under Sections 505(b) and 505(c) of the Penal Code.
“This is because the post by irresponsible parties contains elements of incitement to hatred, insults the royal institution and has the potential to spark racial and religious tensions.
“InsyaAllah (God willing), this afternoon, Dato' Seri Amirudin will meet the Communications Minister, as it involves the Sultan of Selangor, and we are taking responsibility for this matter. We urge the government to curb such acts immediately.
“We are not only focusing on this issue, but the meeting will also discuss preventing any parties from freely spreading defamatory content in the future,” he said after lodging a report at the Section 6 police station today.
Saifuddin also called on the Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to carry out swift investigations and take firm action to prevent racial and religious tensions, as well as insults against the royal institution, from escalating.
“Certainly, the people of Selangor, especially the state administration, want the MCMC and the police to act immediately. This is something that happens frequently.
"Perhaps enforcement needs to be more decisive and prompt. Nevertheless, we respect the roles of the police and the MCMC.
"However, when it involves the royal institution, immediate action must be taken as it risks triggering racial tensions,” he said.
Yesterday, a social media post went viral depicting an edited image of a pig in royal attire associated with the Sultan.
Following this, several state executive councillors (exco), including investment, trade and mobility exco Ng Sze Han, condemned the post and urged firm action against those responsible in accordance with the law.
Similar condemnations were also issued by housing and culture exco Datuk Borhan Aman Shah, Islamic affairs and innovation exco Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah, unity and consumers exco Dato' Rizam Ismail; youth, sports, and entrepreneurship exco Mohd Najwan Halimi, as well as human resources and poverty eradication exco Papparaidu Veraman.
