SEREMBAN, Apr 27 — All 14 UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) Negeri Sembilan state assemblymen today unanimously expressed a loss of confidence and withdrew support for the state government led by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
Negeri Sembilan UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias said an official notification regarding the matter would be submitted to the Speaker and State Legislative Assembly secretary today.
“We want a stable government so that it can play the best possible role in the state administration and at the same time focus on the objective of making the people and the state economy prosperous,” he said at a press conference here today.
Jalaluddin, who is also Jelebu Member of Parliament and Pertang assemblyman, said his party fully supports and defends the Customary Institutions and the Negeri Sembilan State Constitution 1959.
He said UMNO and BN had taken note of the crisis involving customary institutions and the state constitution in Negeri Sembilan and expressed disappointment over the situation.
Jalaluddin said as a party that respects customary institutions and the constitution, UMNO-BN would never take a position to interfere in related matters.
“However, we, the exco from UMNO-BN, were never informed of any discussions at the state government level and only learned of this crisis when it had reached a critical level and became public debate,” he said.
He said Aminuddin should have played his role and exercised wisdom as Menteri Besar in handling the crisis.
Jalaluddin said the situation was seen as affecting the administration of the Negeri Sembilan government and, indirectly, the stability of the government and harmony of the people.
In the 15th state election, BN Negeri Sembilan won 14 seats, Pakatan Harapan won 17 seats, while Perikatan Nasional won five seats.
