KOTA KINABALU, April 21 — No structural damage or injuries have been reported following a weak earthquake that struck Kundasang, Ranau at 3.02am today.
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said that a monitoring operation, which began at 6.35am, involved inspections of shop premises, government buildings and public areas around Ranau town.
“Based on information from the public and observations by building caretakers, no structural damage has been reported so far, and the situation remained under control and safe. No injuries or subsequent incidents have been reported,” it said in a statement.
JBPM added that it would continue to monitor the situation and remain prepared for any possible aftershocks.
The public is also urged to immediately report any damage to the authorities and to adhere to any official instructions from the government agencies
Earlier, the Malaysian Meteorological Department reported that the magnitude 3.4 earthquake occurred at a depth of 10km, centred at coordinates of 6.1 degrees north and 116.7 degrees east, about 8km northwest of Ranau.
