SHAH ALAM, April 21 — Flood mitigation remains a key priority for the Selangor government as it continues efforts to address the longstanding issue, said state executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim.

He said the state views as serious the concerns expressed by Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj about flood management and public service delivery.

“The state government has implemented various initiatives to mitigate flooding and has successfully resolved several flood hotspots across Selangor.

“However, there are still some implementation challenges on site, but we are taking swift action to address them as quickly as possible,” Ng told Media Selangor on the sidelines of the Tautan Muhibah event organised by Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, here yesterday.

Yesterday, during the opening of the First Meeting of the Fourth Term of the 15th Selangor State Legislative Assembly, Sultan Sharafuddin voiced disappointment over recurring flood problems in the state, noting that the issue has persisted for years despite repeated reminders for stronger action.

Ng said flood issues remain the state government’s responsibility and will continue to be prioritised, adding that local authorities are improving drainage systems with regular monitoring and maintenance to lower flash flood risks.

He explained that the state government has also increased allocations for drain cleaning and maintenance.

“Flood mitigation efforts are supported by infrastructure projects and technology adoption, with significant involvement from the Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS),” Ng said, adding that several flood mitigation projects are underway.
