SHAH ALAM, April 20 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj today praised the state government for allocating RM136.21 million for the education of children in the state, saying it would shape a visionary, competitive younger generation.
His Royal Highness said the allocation is in line with current needs and is a proactive measure to improve youth capabilities and capacities.
The Sultan also said focus on educating the younger generation is important as youth are Selangor’s future.
“I agree with my government’s move to improve focus on educating the younger generation, including with early intervention in literacy and numeracy, and emphasis on the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) field,” the Ruler said in an opening address at the 15th Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
Sultan Sharafuddin also highlighted the importance of empowering education initiatives like the Selangor People’s Tuition Programme (PTRS), free third-language classes, and a 50 per cent discount to eligible students of Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) and Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor.
“I believe these measures that were meticulously planned and have continuity will complete the education ecosystem, and it is important to shape a visionary young Selangor generation,” His Royal Highness said.
The Sultan added that 21,295 Selangor children who turned 18 this year will receive RM1,500 each under Tabung Warisan Anak Selangor, which was launched in 2008.
The Ruler also emphasised the importance of spirituality, with the establishment of the Selangor Quran Literacy Academy (ALAS) and World Hadith Centre to improve Muslims’ quality of life in the state.
“BINGKAS Plus, which helps people at risk of falling into hardcore poverty, is a proactive measure to ensure this group receives early support,” Sultan Sharafuddin said.
