Amirudin highlights consistent Palestine aid efforts since 2024

SHAH ALAM, April 19 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari last night declared the completion of a humanitarian effort in Rafah, Egypt, and Barcelona, Spain, to aid Palestinians in Gaza, involving the transfer of 100 containers of aid since 2024 through government-NGO partnerships.

“Recently, in conjunction with Ramadan and Aidilfitri, we also sent about 40,000 cans of food to the people of Gaza as a sign of solidarity,” he said, as quoted by Harapan Daily, in his speech during an Aidilfitri event in Seri Kembangan yesterday.

He also emphasised the importance of stability, unity, and preparedness in confronting global uncertainties, warning that Malaysia is set to face escalating commodity prices in the coming months due to disputes impacting global oil and gas supplies, especially along the vital Strait of Hormuz.

He asserted that, although the effects have not fully hit the country, the federal and state governments have initiated proactive measures to mitigate their impact.

“Thank God, so far, the country’s oil supply is sufficient as a result of good management and targeted policies such as diesel subsidies,” he said.

Amirudin added that the state government has launched the RM131 million Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package to address a potentially more severe economic crisis, and that the sum could rise to around RM200 million thanks to state government subsidiaries.

“The government is not waiting for a crisis. We plan ahead based on data and projections so the pressure on the people can be absorbed as best as possible,” he said.

Amirudin explained that long-term strategies to be prioritised include enhancing public transport, increasing energy efficiency, and promoting sustainability.

He also touched on political instability in Malaysia, especially between 2020 to 2022, which negatively affected the country.

“The political stability that we have achieved today is the foundation for economic recovery… That is why my priority is to ensure Selangor remains stable, harmonious and becomes a state for all,” Amirudin added.
