SHAH ALAM, April 19 — The Smart Sewa Scheme launched in 2016 completes the homeownership target under the First Selangor Plan (RS-1), said state executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah.
He said 2,430 affordable rent-to-own units are available for those not yet able to afford buying a home.
“This shows that existing policies not only focus on housing construction, but offers a transition mechanism to ownership.
“The combination of initiatives like Rumah Selangorku and the Smart Sewa Scheme opens more pathways for the people to own from renting,” he added.

Borhan explained that the scheme helps recipients rent homes at affordable rates while accruing benefits that culminate in a 30 per cent return on rental payments at the end of their leases.
The return could help these recipients with advance payments to own a home or other necessities, said the Tanjung Sepat assemblyman.
“The rental money, we give back 30 per cent to them. It could be used for legal fees to buy a house, make transfers, or any necessary payments,” he added.
The Smart Sewa Scheme, managed by the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS), offers rental rates of between RM450 and RM700 for a maximum lease of five years.
LPHS gives priority under the Smart Sewa Scheme to those wishing to own Rumah Selangorku homes.
