Billion Stars express gets show-cause letter over viral driving incident

KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 — The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) has issued a show-cause letter to Billion Stars Express Sdn Bhd following a viral video showing dangerous driving by one of the company’s express bus drivers.

It views the incident seriously as it could endanger passengers and other road users.

In a statement today, the APAD said that investigations are being carried out on the express bus bearing registration number BSB 4999 under the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715), including Section 22(1)(b)(iii) relating to the conduct of drivers and conductors of public service vehicles.

The probe also involves Section 23(1)(b) involving the failure of licensed operators and their employees to give the highest priority to the safety of passengers and other road users.

It added that investigations were also being conducted under Clause 7 of the General Conditions of Service Level Requirements, which requires licensed operators to ensure that their employees and drivers maintain proper conduct while on duty.

The show-cause letter was issued on April 16 under Section 27 of Act 715, which empowers the agency to take action against licence holders found to have breached operating conditions.

Members of the public may lodge complaints related to misconduct or breaches involving public transport services through the Transport Ministry’s hotline at 1-800-88-7723 or via WhatsApp at +6019-290 7723.
