PUTRAJAYA, April 18 — A Malaysian corporate executive has been confirmed dead following a helicopter crash in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, on Thursday (April 16), with authorities working to repatriate the remains, said the Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra).
Based on the information from his employer, it said the victim was identified as Kurnia Prima Nastari (KPN) Plantations' chief operating officer, who was on work-related matters at the time of the incident.
“According to the Indonesian authorities, the helicopter, registered as PK-CFX and operated by a local aviation company, lost contact shortly after departing from Kabupaten Melawi en route to Kabupaten Kubu Raya.
“The wreckage was subsequently located in a remote forested area in Desa Tapang Tingang, Kecamatan Nanga Taman, Kabupaten Sekadau, and the cause of the incident remains under investigation by the relevant Indonesian authorities,” Wisma Putra said in a statement today.
It added that the Consulate of Malaysia in Pontianak has extended the necessary consular assistance, including coordinating with the Indonesian authorities, the employer, and the family to facilitate the repatriation of the remains to Malaysia.
Wisma Putra also extended its deepest condolences to the deceased's family.
