SHAH ALAM, Apr 17 — Malaysia has made history by securing first place globally for the first time in the biennial Open Data Inventory (ODIN) 2024/25 report, surpassing 197 countries.
According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), the report issued by Open Data Watch (ODW) shows Malaysia made a significant leap from its 67th position in the ODIN 2022/23 assessment.
“Malaysia has, for the first time, achieved first place globally in the biennial Open Data Inventory (ODIN) 2024/25 report issued by Open Data Watch (ODW).
“This achievement represents a significant jump from its 67th position in the ODIN 2022/23 assessment,” DOSM said in a statement in conjunction with the 2024 Agricultural Census report for Selangor, issued yesterday.
DOSM described the achievement as international recognition of Malaysia’s efforts to strengthen a more transparent and high-quality open data system.
Meanwhile, DOSM said the Economic Census 2026 is being carried out from December 5, 2025, until November 31 this year to collect comprehensive and structured data from all registered and unregistered business establishments in Malaysia.
It said the census aims to assess the country’s economic performance, structure and characteristics in a comprehensive and evidence-based manner, supporting more effective policy planning.
DOSM added that the initiative aligns with the national aspiration to strengthen a more systematic and high-integrity national data ecosystem.
