Inspector faces attempted murder charge in hit-and-run case

SHAH ALAM, Apr 16 — A police inspector suspected of being involved in a hit-and-run incident involving a traffic officer will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur court today.

The suspect faces seven charges under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 related to reckless and dangerous driving.

The man will also be charged under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, for allegedly using a vehicle to ram the victim.

Earlier, media reported that the inspector, who is said to suffer from schizophrenia, was arrested after being suspected of involvement in the incident.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus reportedly said the 40-year-old suspect is currently on special medical leave and is in the process of being retired on the recommendation of a medical board.

In the incident on April 10, the victim, Constable Roslan Salleh, 27, was hit from behind by a Perodua Axia while directing traffic at a yellow box junction along Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra, heading towards the Police Training Centre (PULAPOL).

The victim sustained injuries to his right palm and the back of his head, as well as pain in the rib area, before being taken to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment.

The driver fled the scene without stopping to assist the victim.
