LONDON, April 15 — The United Kingdom's (UK) Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that he is "not going to yield" to the United States President's pressure, after Donald Trump suggested reopening a trade deal with the UK as part of the latest pressure over the Iran war.
"I am not going to change my mind. I am not going to yield," he said during the weekly Prime Minister's Questions session in the House of Commons on Wednesday, as reported by Anadolu Ajansı.
Starmer's remarks came in response to a question by Liberal Democrats leader Ed Davey about Trump's interview with Sky News on Tuesday, during which he threatened to "rip up" his trade deal with the UK as punishment for not joining the war on Iran.
He reiterated that the UK is not going to get dragged into the war as it is not in the country's national interests.
"It is not our war, and a lot of pressure has been applied to me to take a different course, and that pressure included what happened last night. I am not going to change my mind," Starmer noted.
In the interview, Trump defined the UK's immigration policies as "insane" and lamented the "sad" state of the US special relationship with the UK.
"When we needed them, they were not there. When we did not need them, they were not there.
"And they still are not there," he said in response to relations with the UK.
