SHAH ALAM, April 12 — The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 must encourage real action and shared responsibilities to help Gaza, not just incite expressions of sympathy, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
In a Facebook post ahead of GSF 2.0’s departure from Barcelona, Spain, today, he said his side has undertaken various efforts, including by channelling aid and building infrastructure, and continuing the fight so the world’s collective voice grows louder in demanding justice for Gaza.
“Barcelona is the starting point of one more of Malaysia’s significant humanitarian efforts for Palestine through GSF 2.0.
“The moment I reached (Barcelona), I held a coordination discussion with the Malaysian delegation to ensure this mission moves in a clear, orderly and systematic manner.
“To all (members of the) delegation, you are pioneers for a bigger step. God willing, may this journey and fight continue to be blessed and protected by God,” he said.
On April 3, the Menteri Besar’s Office said Amirudin would lead the Malaysian delegation in GSF 2.0, which aims to channel aid to and express solidarity with Palestinians.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Amirudin’s appointment as leader of Malaysia’s GSF 2.0 delegation to Egypt would help smooth humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza.
Anwar said the decision was made at a multipartisan consultation, including the Egyptian and Qatari governments, on the large-scale delivery of humanitarian aid containers.
