SHAH ALAM, April 11 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said his participation in an international delegation to Gaza is driven solely by humanitarian concerns, not political or religious motives.

In a Facebook post, he said the delegation, comprising individuals from various countries, races and religions, is united in delivering a clear message that Palestine has the right to freedom.

“Driven by determination and resolve to send a clear message to the world that violence and oppression in Palestine must end, we will join more than 1,000 participants from around the world and over 100 vessels in the largest civilian humanitarian mission, the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF).”

“This mission does not carry a political or religious message. It is a humanitarian mission,” he said today.

Amirudin said the mission also reflects Malaysia’s firm stance in rejecting any form of oppression against innocent Palestinians.

He also called on the public to pray for the safety and protection of all participants involved in the mission.

“More than 70,000 lives have been lost, while food, medical supplies and clean water are being blocked. Should we remain silent? The genocide in Gaza must end.

“Pray for us, that all participants in this mission are protected, blessed and safeguarded,” he said.

In a separate post after arriving in Barcelona, Amirudin said preparations for the upcoming GSF 2.0 mission have now entered a critical phase ahead of its departure.

“Today and tomorrow are critical days before the launch of the GSF 2.0, which will sail from Barcelona to the waters of Gaza.

“God willing, I will join participants from Malaysia and around the world to deliver the message that people globally reject violence and oppression against the Palestinians,” he said.

On April 3, the Menteri Besar’s Office announced that Amirudin would represent Malaysia in leading the humanitarian aid mission to Gaza, as well as the GSF 2.0 delegation, in an effort to deliver aid and solidarity to the Palestinian people.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Amirudin’s appointment to represent Malaysia is aimed at facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The mission will also be joined by Media Selangor chief executive officer Mohamed Fareed Mohamed Ashaaree, who will accompany Amirudin throughout the implementation of the aid mission.
