SHAH ALAM, April 9 — Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel on patrol must now wear body-worn cameras (BWCs), with 7,648 units having been distributed nationwide since October 2024, reported Berita Harian.
Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said 6,449 JPJKK personnel will be wearing BWCs, including the Mobile Patrol Vehicle, Motorcycle Patrol, and Tourist Police units.
Yusri said distribution is being done in stages, with all contingents in Selangor now equipped with BWCs.
“Selangor received the highest allocation with 1,328 units, followed by Perak (968), Johor (952), Sarawak (736), Sabah (704), Pulau Pinang (472), Pahang (440), Kedah (400), Kuala Lumpur (360), Negeri Sembilan and Kelantan (328 each), Terengganu (288), Melaka (192), Perlis (120), and Bukit Aman (32),” he said.
He expressed hope that PDRM would receive 10,000 more BWCs under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
Yusri said the new devices have better specifications than the previous BWC models, including longer battery life, which is something that was considered for the following procurement phase.
