SHAH ALAM, Apr 9 — Authorities have seized more than 210 tonnes of illegal electronic and scheduled waste at Port Klang in a major operation targeting prohibited imports.
According to a statement by Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) deputy commander Wan Fazli Wan Hamat, the seizure was carried out under Op Green Shield 20, a collaborative effort involving AKPS, the Customs Department, the Environment Department (DOE), SIRIM and the Port Klang Authority.
Wan Fazli added that 18 officers took part in inspections of 16 containers between 9.30 am and 1 pm to verify shipment contents and ensure compliance with regulations.
“Preliminary investigations found nine containers carrying electronic waste (SW 110) weighing 184,627 kg, while one container contained scheduled waste (SW 103) weighing 26,200 kg,” he said in a statement.
The total weight of seized waste reached 210,827 kg.

According to Wan Fazli, the five containers containing plastic and metal scrap were handed over to SIRIM for further action. Authorities also detected false declarations submitted by two companies on K1 forms, prompting enforcement action and referrals to Customs for follow-up.
He added that inspections of containers suspected of carrying illegal e-waste will continue under the absolute ban on e-waste imports, which came into effect on Apr 1 under the Customs (Amendment) Order (No.3) 2026 (P.U.(A) 151/2026).
“The agency will continue to strengthen border controls and enforcement at entry points to safeguard national sovereignty and protect the country’s interests,” he said.
