SHAH ALAM, April 7 — Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has acknowledged the important role of media practitioners as strategic partners in expanding the reach of its expertise, research, and achievements to the wider community.
UPM Vice-Chancellor Datuk Prof Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah said that media support is a key pillar in strengthening the institution's reputation, while ensuring that research outcomes benefit the public.
“The role of the media in broadening publicity, highlighting the university’s expertise, and conveying UPM’s achievements to society is very important and greatly appreciated.
“This continued support is among the main factors in strengthening UPM’s reputation and visibility at both national and international levels,” he said during the 2026 UPM media engagement and promotion ceremony yesterday.
During the event, the Malaysian National News Agency received top recognition with the Highest Media Coverage Award, taking home a RM1,500 cash prize, a plaque, and a certificate.
Various award categories were also contested, including television, radio, online portal, and multilingual media coverage, with each main winner receiving RM500 in cash along with a plaque and certificate.
Media Selangor Sdn Bhd was also recognised as a Strategic Media Partner for its commitment and potential to collaborate in expanding reach and strengthening the university’s communications.
Its corporate communications head Mahadi Mohd Mustafa said the recognition reflects the company’s significant role in enhancing UPM's reputation.
“This is a symbol of recognition from UPM of the important role played by media practitioners, particularly Media Selangor, in disseminating information and shaping a well-informed society,” he said.
