SEPANG, April 7 — Malaysia will lead the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 with five strategic phases to help Palestinians, especially those in Gaza, who are suffering at the hands of Israel’s Zionist regime.

Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisation (MAPIM) chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Sani Abdul Alim Araby said the first phase involves aid delivery by land and sea.

“Through the land route, we will send emergency aid of over 300 tonnes of necessities in 30 containers. This includes urgent food, medicine and winter essentials for the 100,000 affected Gazans.

“For the sea route through the GSF 2.0 mission, it is integrated with the global effort. The flotilla will move from European ports starting with Barcelona and try to break the siege to reach Gazan waters. This mission involves activists from over 100 countries,” he told a press conference after launching Malaysia’s GSF 2.0 mission at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 here yesterday.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari was also present.

Sani added that for the second phase, an international press conference will be held in Rafah to declare Malaysia’s stance on humanitarian issues in Gaza.

He explained that the third phase will see the mission, comprising people from various segments of society, flown to several main locations including Barcelona in Spain and Italy.

“This (mission) involves 100 countries compared with only 44 previously, with around 70 ships ready at ports,” he said.

According to Sani, the fourth phase will focus on the World Sumud Summit Parliamentary Inaugural Congress in Brussels, Belgium, that would gather representatives from various countries to urge stronger international action.

“The fifth phase involves legal action by dragging the (Israeli) regime to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) via legal channels by the Centre For Human Rights Research and Advocacy (CENTHRA), under Wisma Putra’s patronage,” he explained.

On April 3, the Menteri Besar’s Office said Amirudin will represent Malaysia in leading the national GSF 2.0 delegation to channel aid to and express solidarity with Palestinians.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Amirudin was chosen to lead the Malaysian delegation as multipartisan discussions are required with quarters including the Egyptian and Qatari governments and as the GSF 2.0 mission involves the large-scale shipping of aid containers.

On Saturday, the GSF Secretariat announced that the mission would depart for Gaza on April 12 in the latest effort to break Israel’s illegal siege on Palestine.

The humanitarian effort, the largest ever mobilised by civil society, will depart Barcelona with 80 ships and 1,000 activists.
