SHAH ALAM, 6 April — A 32-year-old man who drove against the flow of traffic on Old Klang Road in Kuala Lumpur was sentenced to three days in prison and fined RM6,000 today after pleading guilty to reckless and dangerous driving.
Wong Kok Kong was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He was sentenced by Magistrate Tg Syazwany Yasmyn Tuan Roslan and paid the fine. The accused’s driving licence was also suspended for five years.
Earlier today, it was reported that Wong, who went viral on social media for driving against traffic, was detained after surrendering himself at the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) office last night.
Kuala Lumpur JSPT chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the suspect presented himself at the JSPT office at 8.35pm after police failed to locate him at several addresses, including his family home.
Initial investigations found that the local man had driven against traffic for about 500m after taking a wrong turn while heading towards the Mid Valley Megamall shopping centre.
Breathalyser and urine tests conducted on the suspect returned negative results.
A viral video showed a vehicle being driven against traffic from the Old Klang Road/Jalan Sepadu intersection to the Jalan Kuchai Lama intersection.
