KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 6 — A man who went viral on social media for driving against traffic along Old Klang Road yesterday was detained after surrendering himself at the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) office last night.
Kuala Lumpur JSPT chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the 32-year-old suspect presented himself at the JSPT office at 8.35 pm after police failed to locate him at several addresses, including his family home.
He said initial investigations found that the local man had driven against traffic for about 500 metres after taking a wrong turn while heading towards the Mid Valley Megamall shopping centre.
“Breathalyser (EBA) and urine tests conducted on the suspect returned negative results.
“The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Zamzuri said the suspect will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex in Jalan Duta at 9 am today under the same section.
Yesterday, a video went viral showing a vehicle being driven against traffic from the Old Klang Road/Jalan Sepadu intersection to the Jalan Kuchai Lama intersection, endangering other road users.
Kuala Lumpur JSPT detected the video at 11.38 am before launching efforts to track down the driver.
