No snap polls, all quarters must cooperate to face global energy crisis

IPOH, April 5 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has indicated that there will be no snap general election and urged all parties to work together on solutions amid the global energy crisis.

He stressed that the current situation is not about political rivalry, but a time for patience and focus in addressing the nation’s challenges.

“This is not politics. This is not about political rivalry or being hostile to one another. I will not be calling an election in the next month or two, just be patient.

“When the time comes for elections, then compete. For now, we work. Enough of politics, rise and save our country!,” he said when officiating the Perak Madani Rakyat Programme in Meru Raya here today.

Also present were Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Meanwhile, Anwar said the government has its own mechanisms to monitor the implementation of work-from-home (WFH) arrangements among civil servants to ensure the integrity and quality of public service delivery.

He said the proposal for partial WFH implementation by Shamsul Azri and the Public Service Department (JPA) director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz requires a responsible work culture and effective monitoring to prevent abuse.

Anwar added that the policy is important in testing the resolve and resilience of Malaysians in facing uncertain global economic challenges, as well as a strategic measure to strengthen preparedness for a potential energy crisis following the conflict in West Asia.

At the event, he presented Sentuhan Kasih Syawal contributions to those in need, involving RM5,000 for each recipient, including orphanages, elderly care homes and centres for people with disabilities (PWDs).

Anwar also presented contributions under the Housing and Local Government Ministry’s Sentuhan Kasih initiative, involving the Home Repair Programme, New House Construction Programme, and Rumah Mesra Rakyat Programme.
