Selangor reassesses overseas trips to tighten spending

SHAH ALAM, April 4 — The Selangor government is reviewing the need for official overseas trips as a cost-saving measure following the West Asia conflict.

State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the move is aimed at ensuring state funds are used more effectively and deliver direct benefits to the people.

“The state is not taking a wait-and-see approach. Instead, we are actively reviewing expenditure control measures, including reassessing less critical programmes and policies.

“This includes evaluating the need for overseas visits and official invitations involving state leaders,” he said at an Aidilfitri event at Dewan Raja Muda Musa, Section 7, here today.

Najwan said the matter was discussed at the State Economic Action Council (MTES) meeting chaired by Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari yesterday, as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s preparedness.

He added that the move is important to ensure prudent financial management amid global uncertainties.

“We want to reduce unnecessary spending and focus on what truly matters.

“At the same time, the state government is also reviewing measures to assist communities that may be affected by the current situation."

Selangor is currently formulating strategic measures, including new initiatives, to address rising fuel prices and the cost of living following the West Asia conflict.

Amirudin had previously said the measures are expected to be announced within two to three weeks after taking into account insights and projections from economic and geopolitical experts during a recent special state executive council roundtable.

He said various views and projections were presented to help Selangor better prepare for potential global economic shifts.
