Klang fatal crash: Amirul Hafiz's family to receive monthly Socso survivors’ pension

SHAH ALAM, April 3 — The welfare of the widow and three children of a motorcyclist, killed in a road accident at Jalan Raya Barat, Klang, on Sunday (March 29), will continue to be safeguarded, as they qualify for a monthly Survivors’ Pension of RM2,888.17 from the Social Security Organisation (Socso).

Socso group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said checks found that the late Amirul Hafiz Omar, 33, who had worked at TVH Malaysia Sdn Bhd for 15 years, was an active contributor under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4).

“The late Amirul Hafiz’s records meet the eligibility requirements under the Invalidity Scheme, thus qualifying his dependants to receive the Survivors’ Pension as a form of continuous financial support.

“His contributions now serve as a lifeline for his wife, Nor Nadia Abdul Majid, 32, and their three children: Muhammad Aqif Amsyar, Muhammad Afif Izz Rayqal, and Nur Humaira, aged between two and nine,” he said.

Azman was speaking to the media when visiting and presenting the Survivors’ Pension and Funeral Management Benefit amounting to RM3,000 to Nadia at Ken Rimba Apartments in Section 16 today.

He added that Amirul's widow is eligible for monthly payments for life, while the children will receive financial assistance for their education until age 21 or upon completion of their first degree, with the total monthly benefit being RM2,888.17.

“The loss of a loved one cannot be replaced, but the social protection provided by Socso can serve as an important safeguard in ensuring the continued livelihood of the dependents.

“Consistent contributions are the foundation of this protection, and in this case, they have become a lifeline for the future of the deceased’s family,” Azman said.

He also urged employers who have yet to register to do so immediately, and contribute for their employees under Act 4, as the protection provided today serves as a guarantee for the future, given that misfortune can strike at any time.

Social protection in the informal sector has also been strengthened through the enforcement of the Gig Workers Act 2025, which came into force on Tuesday (March 31).

“This new Act officially provides social security protection under Socso to more than 1.64 million gig workers in Malaysia, ensuring compensation and welfare if they are involved in accidents while working,” Azman said.

On Wednesday (April 1), laboratory assistant R. Saktygaanapathy, 28, was charged at the Klang Magistrate’s Court with Amirul's murder.

Previously, Klang Selatan police chief ACP Lim Jit Huey said a motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a car driver, believed to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs, in an incident at 11.40am on Sunday.

In another development, Azman said there are employers in Malaysia who do not consistently contribute to Socso in order to cut costs.

He noted that this was detected through record checks, before Socso took action against these errant employers.
