Customs Dept foils 3.3kg heroin smuggling attempt at KLIA Terminal 2

PUTRAJAYA, April 3 — An attempt to smuggle 3.3kg of heroin worth nearly RM266,000 was foiled at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2 in February.

The seizure was made following an inspection by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department's Enforcement Division at KLIA, together with the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), of a Swiss national at the arrival hall on February 24.

KLIA Customs director Zulkifli Muhammad said the suspect, who was attempting to enter Malaysia from a Southeast Asian country, was stopped after a scan of a water hose reel box he was carrying revealed suspicious images.

“A thorough inspection by the Customs enforcement team uncovered black packages concealed inside the water hose reel, believed to contain heroin,” he said in a statement today.

The suspect and the seized items were subsequently handed over to the KLIA Customs Department Enforcement Division for further investigation.

Zulkifli added that the heroin is listed under the First Schedule, Part III of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and that the suspect has been charged in court.
