SHAH ALAM, April 1 — Malaysia’s fuel supply for April and May is under control, Unity Government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said, based on updates from Petronas.
In a post-Cabinet meeting press conference, the communications minister said representatives from the national oil company provided an update during the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting yesterday, amid the ongoing West Asia conflict.
“The prime minister’s order is clear, which is to continue monitoring (the fuel supply) for April and May. For Petronas, the situation is still under control.”
“At the same time, we have taken note that some of our vessels are still on the way to Malaysia and are awaiting their turn to pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” he said today, reiterating that Iran has not imposed tolls on Malaysian ships.
The conflict in West Asia, which has disrupted key shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz, has driven a surge in global oil prices.
As part of the government’s response to surging prices, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced on March 26 that the BUDI95 fuel subsidy monthly quota will be revised from 300 litres to 200 litres, effective April 1.
On false reports regarding fuel prices, Fahmi said the government, through the Finance Ministry (MOF), only announces weekly updates every Wednesday evening.
“Any information circulating outside of this schedule, and if it is not from the MOF, should be considered false,” he asserted.
