SHAH ALAM, April 1 — A man remanded in connection with an incident of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs that claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Jalan Raya Barat, Klang, will be charged in court today.
South Klang district police chief assistant commissioner Lim Jit Huey confirmed the matter via a text message to the media last night.
He said the suspect is expected to be brought to the Klang Magistrates’ Court at 8.30 am to face charges related to the case.
Investigations found that the man tested positive for alcohol and drugs, and the case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol causing death.
The offence carries a maximum jail term of 15 years, a fine of up to RM100,000, and disqualification from driving for not less than 10 years.
In the incident at about 11.40 am on Sunday, a 33-year-old motorcyclist was killed at the scene after being hit by a car driven by the suspect, who is believed to have been driving recklessly in the opposite lane heading towards Klang town.
Initial investigations found that the driver is believed to have overtaken several vehicles in the opposite lane before crashing into the motorcycle ridden by the victim, Amirul Hafiz Omar.
As a result of the collision, the victim was flung onto a Perodua Myvi before being pronounced dead at the scene.
