SUBANG JAYA, March 29 — Approximately 387 pupils in the Subang Jaya state constituency received school cash assistance from the state government via Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI.
Its state assemblyman Michelle Ng Mei Sze said the assistance is targeted at low-income families to help ease parents’ financial burden ahead of the school term.
The number of recipients increased from the original quota of 300 pupils following collaboration with the private sector.
“Initially, the quota was only 300 recipients, but we took the initiative to collaborate with Universal Therapeutic, and they agreed to sponsor an additional 87 pupils from underprivileged families.
“We hope this contribution amounting to RM38,700 will help ease the burden on parents. Interestingly, this time we are also organising it alongside free cervical cancer screening sponsored by Yayasan Rose,” she told Media Selangor.
Previously, Yayasan MBI chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said nearly RM20 million has been spent over more than 10 years to assist about one million pupils in preparing school necessities.
The effort is also aimed at ensuring that pupils, especially those from low-income families, are not left behind in accessing education.
Applicants are required to register at their respective state constituency service centres and provide supporting documents, including copies of parents’ identity cards, birth certificates, or MyKid.
In addition to this assistance, the foundation also channels various educational initiatives, including the Selangor People’s Tuition Programme, laptop contributions, and Internet data connectivity.
Meanwhile, Universal Therapeutic founder Datuk Seri Samuel Chai said it is a priority for the company to assist underprivileged groups, particularly in education.
“This is our third year collaborating with the Subang Jaya State Constituency Service Centre to distribute back-to-school assistance.
“We support all programmes implemented by the centre in helping those in need,” he said.
