KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 — Four districts in Kedah, namely Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Pendang and Baling, recorded a Level Two heat wave as of 6am this morning.
Based on updated data from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), several other areas in Kedah recorded Level One (alert) hot weather, including Bandar Baharu, Kulim, Kuala Muda, Pulau Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Pendang, and Sik.
Level One hot weather status was also recorded throughout Perlis, North Seberang Perai in Penang, as well as Kinta, Kuala Kangsar, and Hulu Perak in Perak.
A Level Two heat wave refers to daily maximum temperatures between 37°C and 40°C, while Level One involves temperatures between 35°C and 37°C.
Both levels are recorded when the temperatures in question occur for at least three consecutive days.
Yesterday, the Kedah State Education Department announced that schools in the Kota Setar and Pendang districts would implement Home-Based Teaching and Learning for three days starting today.
The decision was made based on a report from the Malaysian Meteorological Department, which showed that daily temperatures at Level Two were recorded for three consecutive days from Thursday (March 26) to yesterday in both districts.
