Sekolah Dalam Hospital programme expanded, over 400,000 pupils to benefit

SHAH ALAM, March 24 — More than 400,000 pupils have benefited from the Sekolah Dalam Hospital (SDH) programme, ensuring they do not fall behind in their studies while receiving treatment.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said 20 SDH programmes are currently operating nationwide since the initiative was introduced in 2011.

To ensure continuity in learning, the Education Ministry (MOE) works closely with the Health and Higher Education Ministries to implement the initiative.

“Access to quality education is the right of every individual, and the MOE is committed to meeting the needs of all segments of pupils, including those in hospitals,” she said in a statement today.

Fadhlina added that the programme’s expansion is ongoing, with the latest implementation at the Seberang Jaya Hospital, the first such location in Penang.

“The initiative reflects the MOE's continued commitment to expanding inclusive access to education for all levels of society,” she said.

For the record, hospitals implementing the SDH programme include Ampang Hospital, Serdang Hospital, Kuala Lumpur Hospital, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre, Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, and Selayang Hospital.

It is also implemented at Tuanku Jaafar Hospital, Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital, Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital, Sultanah Aminah Hospital, Sarawak General Hospital, Tawau Hospital, and Sabah Women and Children Hospital.

SDH was introduced in stages beginning in 2011 and continues to be expanded nationwide to ensure access to education for all pupils, regardless of their health condition.

Fadhlina noted that the effort is also in line with the implementation of the Malaysia Education Plan 2026-2035, which emphasises improving access to quality education.
