SHAH ALAM, March 21 — Muslims nationwide are encouraged to keep Hari Raya visits peaceful by steering clear of topics that may spark disagreements or arguments.

In its Aidilfitri sermon delivered across mosques in Selangor today, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) reminded Muslims to instead focus on discussions that are harmonising and beneficial.

"Let the visits be filled with cordial, constructive and peaceful interactions. Avoid heated debates on sensitive issues that could lead to disputes and arguments," it said.

JAIS urged Muslims to continue the good practices cultivated during Ramadan, including reciting the Quran, engaging in worship, giving charity and frequenting the mosques.

It said Aidilfitri should not be tarnished with vile acts or evil traits.

"Indeed, Aidilfitri teaches us to continue pursuing righteousness so that it becomes part of our culture.

"It also reminds us of human fitrah (natural desire) to live in peace, harmony, and unity, while avoiding fake news, slander, envy, insults, and incitement."

JAIS urges Muslims to prioritise harmony over heated discussions as they celebrate the festive month of Syawal.

JAIS said Ramadan has served as a lesson to nurture the soul with patience, discipline, and faith, adding that fasting does not weaken Muslims.

Rather, it said it strengthens both the spirit and the body, enabling them to face life’s challenges with resilience.

The state religious body also reminded that the month of Syawal is not merely a time of joy, but a new beginning in returning to one’s natural disposition and strengthening obedience to God

"Therefore, let us continue our struggle in practicing Islam in its entirety in our lives, our family, and society."

JAIS said Muslims should also emulate Prophet Muhammad and his companions by demonstrating steadfast faith, exercising patience, trusting in God, and staying resolute when facing challenges and trials.
