Amid global tensions, MB urges moderation, unity ahead of Aidilfitri

SHAH ALAM, March 17 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has urged Selangor residents to uphold moderation and foster unity ahead of Hari Raya, amid ongoing global challenges such as war and economic uncertainties.

In his Aidilfitri message, he said a resilient mindset and strong character would help prepare the people to face any trials.

"These moments also serve as a reminder to strengthen unity among all in Selangor, for togetherness will help protect us in the face of external threats," he said today.

His message comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, particularly the ongoing war between US-Israel and Iran, which has disrupted global energy markets, pushed oil prices above  US$100 a barrel and raised inflation and supply‑chain concerns.

Amirudin also urged residents to continue the good deeds performed during the holy month of Ramadan, including caring for the poor, orphans and those less fortunate.

"This moderation will bring true success to all of us, and the actions we take today will have lasting benefits for future generations, enabling them to live with dignity and vision."

The Menteri Besar reminded the public not to be distracted by worldly life and to instead remain grateful and maintain good relationships with others, alongside performing acts of worship.

"The past month of Ramadan carries great significance for all Muslims. Among its lessons is the true meaning of victory for those who fast. Surely, everyone seeks Lailatul Qadr and performs various acts of charity in pursuit of Allah’s pleasure.

"True victory is also achieved by those who can control their desires, nafs, and soul by demonstrating good conduct throughout Ramadan. These are the traits of genuine victory, which hold profound meaning in the life of Muslims.”

Amirudin added that, as initially announced on February 27, Selangor civil servants will receive the KitaSelangor Aidilfitri Special Incentive (IKSA) in the form of one month’s salary or a minimum of RM1,000 on March 19. Federal civil servants in Selangor will receive RM300.

He said this is in recognition of Selangor’s strong financial performance, which saw the state collecting the highest revenue in its history in 2025, totalling RM3.021 billion.
