SHAH ALAM, March 17 — Aidilfitri Sunat prayers at all mosques and suraus in Selangor will be held at 8am if Hari Raya falls on Friday and at 8.30am if it falls on Saturday, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) announced.
It said this is in view of the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal's announcement that the sighting of the Syawal new moon to determine the date for Aidilfitri will be conducted at 29 locations nationwide on Thursday.
JAIS also urged mosque and surau administrators to disseminate the information to their respective congregations to ensure attendance at the designated time.
"All administrators are also reminded to comply with the regulations regarding the use of loudspeakers as issued by the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) in Circular No 76, dated August 29, 2025," it said in a circular share with Media Selangor.
The MAIS regulations govern the appropriate use of internal and external loudspeakers, including permitted times, volume levels and types of announcements to ensure they do not cause disturbance to the surrounding community.
On March 10, the Office of the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal announced that the sighting of the Syawal new moon will take place on March 19, with the official Aidilfitri date to be announced over radio and television that same night.
The Conference of Rulers had consented to the determination of the date for Aidilfitri.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government has agreed to provide an additional day off in conjunction with this year's Aidilfitri celebration, with the exact date depending on the official declaration of Syawal 1.
If Aidilfitri falls on Friday, he said the additional holiday will be observed on the following Monday. If it falls on Saturday, the additional holiday will instead be observed on Friday, the day before.
