Robber shot dead during gold shop heist in PJ

SHAH ALAM, March 17 — A security guard was injured when he struggled with a suspect during a robbery attempt at a jewellery shop in Section 14, Petaling Jaya last night.

Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Shamsudin Mamat said the guard tried to stop the suspect, who was armed with a knife.

“The suspect, a local man, attempted to steal jewellery but failed to escape after struggling with the guard.

“He acted alone and was injured after being shot by the guard,” Shamsudin said in a statement yesterday, as reported by Harian Metro.

Both the suspect and the guard were then taken to University Malaya Medical Centre for treatment, where the suspect was later pronounced dead while receiving treatment.

Shamsudin said a post mortem would be conducted tomorrow to determine the cause of death and complete the investigation.

“Investigations are being carried out under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery and Section 39 of the Arms Act.

Earlier, media reported that a robber died after being shot by a security guard during a robbery attempt at a jewellery shop in Petaling Jaya.
