Puncak Jalil hillside fire extinguished after nearly 12 hours

SHAH ALAM, March 12 — A forest fire on the Puncak Jalil hillside near Seri Kembangan, which affected an area of about 37 hectares, was fully extinguished this morning.

Seri Kembangan Fire and Rescue Station head Nik Mohd Dzarrin Ghifari Azmy said his team received an emergency call about the incident around 4.12pm yesterday, with the fire crew arriving at the scene at 4.21pm.

“In the initial stages, the fire was estimated to have affected an area of between three and five hectares.

“However, after the firefighting operation was fully completed early this morning, the affected area is estimated to have reached around 37 hectares.

"The operation ended at 3.48am, while follow-up monitoring continued until 9am to ensure no remaining hotspots that could reignite the fire,” he told Media Selangor.

Dzarrin said the operation was assisted by the Puchong, Jalan Penchala and Cyberjaya Fire and Rescue Stations, with support from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Civil Defence Force (APM) and Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ).

“Overall, the operation involved around 40 fire personnel, including four officers from the Petaling Jaya Zone."

The Drone Unit from the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department headquarters was also deployed to help monitor areas that are hard to access and identify locations at risk of reignition.

Dzarrin said the firefighting operation faced challenges due to the hilly and steep terrain, as well as windy conditions that accelerated the spread of the fire.

No victims were reported, while the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
