KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 — Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, the Queen of Malaysia, graced an iftar event with orphans, asnaf, and children under the care of Yayasan Chow Kit at Istana Negara tonight.
The event was also attended by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Zulkifli Hasan, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh, and Yayasan Chow Kit founder Datuk Hartini Zainudin.
At the event, Her Majesty mingled with the children and presented contributions from the Raja Zarith Sofiah Foundation of Johor to 70 orphans from the People’s Housing Project (PPR) Kerinchi, PPR Seri Chempaka and PPR Pantai Ria, as well as 90 asnaf children from around Kuala Lumpur.
Raja Zarith Sofiah also presented contributions to 70 children under the care of Yayasan Chow Kit, 50 Syrian and Palestinian children from Sekolah Al-Aqsa Kuala Lumpur, and 30 Muslim converts.
Earlier, the Queen attended a Quran recitation and translation session delivered by Ustaz Zahirrudin Jamal Abdul Nasir and Ustaz Haikal Zaini.
Her Majesty later performed the Maghrib prayers in congregation at the Istana Negara main surau, led by Zhafiran Zolkafli from the Istana Negara Islamic Affairs Division.
