Company director held over alleged RM100,000 bribe

KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 — The Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested a company director today, who is suspected of soliciting and accepting about RM100,000 in bribes from a property development company.

According to a source, the bribe was allegedly paid in return for handing over land belonging to former workers of an estate in Selangor for commercial development.

The suspect, in his 60s, was arrested at 12.20pm when he turned up to give his statement at the Selangor MACC office.

“Preliminary investigations found that the suspect is believed to have committed the offence between 2020 and 2025 by handing over land belonging to 136 former estate workers without their knowledge or consent.

“The suspect, who was the trustee of the eight-acre (3.24-hectare) land, is believed to have received bribes several times over a five-year period and also obtained about RM5 million from the acquisition of the land,” said the source.

When contacted, Selangor MACC director Mohd Azwan Ramli confirmed the arrest.

The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009, and the man will be brought to the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court tomorrow for a remand application.
