SHAH ALAM, March 11 — Approximately 410 heads of poor households in Selangor received RM500 in cash assistance each to help ease financial burdens ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
The Menteri Besar's political secretary Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad said the assistance, implemented for the first time, was channelled to recipients listed in the e-Kasih system who also receive aid from the Federal government.
The initiative is expected to help low-income groups make better preparations for the festive season.
“This assistance may not solve all problems, but at least it can help them prepare for Aidilfitri with greater peace of mind.
“The government, through various initiatives including cash aid and price controls on goods, continues striving to ensure the welfare of the people is always safeguarded,” he said.
Saifuddin was speaking to the media during the 'Sejahtera MADANI Kebajikan: Ikatan Kasih Ramadan 1447H' programme, organised by the Selangor Implementation Coordination Unit at Dewan Jubli Perak of the State Secretariat Building today.
He added that the Federal and state governments will continue to strengthen various initiatives to improve people’s economic standing, in line with the Malaysia MADANI principles, which emphasise compassion and societal well-being.
These continuous efforts have also yielded results, with Selangor successfully eradicating hardcore poverty on February 20 after 5,058 heads of households were removed from the e-Kasih system list recorded on January 1.
During the event, contributions under the Skim Simpanan Pendidikan Nasional (SSPN) Prime, totalling RM100,000, were also channelled to the children of recipients currently studying in secondary school.
“This SSPN contribution is given to the children of recipient households, with RM500 allocated for each recipient, while today’s cash assistance is channelled to the heads of the households involved,” Saifuddin said.
