SHAH ALAM, March 11 — Two syndicates distributing methamphetamine and cannabis buds weighing a total of 221.4 kilograms and worth RM14.6 million were busted in four police raids between March 3 and 5.
The operation, carried out by the Selangor Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) in collaboration with the Gombak Police Narcotics Investigation Division, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Sepang, and the Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad auxiliary police, led to the arrest of one local man and five foreigners, including a woman.
Selangor Police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the first case involved four foreign nationals and the woman, and the seizure of cannabis buds weighing 116.3 kilograms valued at RM9.35 million.
On March 3, a man suspected of being a drug mule was arrested at KLIA with luggage containing 49 plastic packets of dried leaves believed to be cannabis weighing 27.2 kilograms, intended for export.
“Following that arrest, on March 4 another foreign man suspected of being the syndicate mastermind was detained at a house in Kota Warisan, Sepang. One luggage containing 25 plastic packets of cannabis weighing 14.3 kilograms was also seized.
“Further questioning led to the arrest of two more suspects, including a foreign woman, at a condominium in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur. Police found five luggage containing 136 plastic packets of cannabis weighing 74.8 kilograms,” he said at a press conference at the Selangor Contingent Police Headquarters, reported Berita Harian.
The four suspects, aged between 20 and 30, are believed to have entered the country between December and mid-last month using tourist visas.
All suspects are thought to belong to the same syndicate and the drugs were believed to be intended for overseas markets.
“Police also seized two cars, two luxury watches, and cryptocurrency,” he added.
In a separate case, Shazeli said two men, including a foreigner, were arrested in the Gombak area with five canvas bags containing 64 plastic packets labelled ‘Daguanyin’ suspected to be methamphetamine weighing 105.1 kilograms.
The drugs, valued at RM5.25 million, were found at the back of a Nissan van used by the suspects.
Checks revealed that the local suspect, 34, worked as a courier delivery man and had three prior drug-related offences. The foreign suspect, 47, who worked at a temple near Batu Caves, had no criminal record in Malaysia.
The drugs are believed to be destined for the Klang Valley market and the syndicate is thought to have been active since last month.
Both cases are investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
