SHAH ALAM, March 10 — Muslims in the state have been advised not to panic over speculation that Hari Raya Aidilfitri could be celebrated earlier than expected, and instead focus on acts of worship as the final ten nights of Ramadan approach.
Senior Assistant Mufti of the Falak Division Muhammad Fahmi Mohamad Soen said the period is an important time for Muslims to increase their religious practices and strengthen their devotion.
He also reminded the public to respect the process of sighting the Syawal crescent moon before any official announcement on the date of Aidilfitri is made.
“Let us all respect the process of sighting the Syawal crescent and wait for the official proclamation of Hari Raya Aidilfitri by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal on the 29th of Ramadan 1447H, which falls on Thursday, March 19,” Fahmi told Media Selangor.
He added that the public is advised to wait for an official statement from the Selangor Mufti’s Office, which is expected to be issued in the near future regarding the matter.
Recently, speculation about the possibility of an earlier Aidilfitri celebration has been widely discussed on social media, with some users suggesting the possibility of a “surprise Raya”.
The discussion emerged following an announcement by the United Arab Emirates that set 20 March as the date for Aidilfitri celebrations in that country.
