SHAH ALAM, March 10 — The managing director of a company pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court today to a charge of bribing an officer of the Environment Department (DOE) as an inducement not to take legal action against him.
Goh Chin San, 53, was charged with giving a RM5,000 bribe to a DOE Senior Environmental Control Officer as an inducement not to take legal action against him for allegedly committing an offence under the Environmental Quality Act 1974.
The offence was allegedly committed at 1.15pm on May 22, 2025, on the roadside at the premises of Syarikat Huan Mao Technology Sdn Bhd, in Kuala Selangor.
He was charged under Section 17(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 and, upon conviction, could be imprisoned for up to 20 years and fined not less than five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud granted bail of RM12,000 with one surety and set May 13 for mention.
He also ordered the accused to report to the MACC office in Shah Alam every month, surrender his passport to the court, and not interfere with prosecution witnesses.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Arif Asyraf Mohd Khairi appeared for the prosecution, while Goh was unrepresented.
