TANAH MERAH, March 7 — The Accountant General’s Department of Malaysia (JANM) has recorded more than RM13 billion in unclaimed money as of January 31 this year, said Accountant-General Datuk Zainani Jusoh.

Of the total amount, RM7 billion remains in the Unclaimed Money Trust Account, while the remainder has been transferred to the Consolidated Revenue Account as it was not claimed by owners or heirs within a period of 10 years.

“However, funds that have been transferred to the Consolidated Revenue Account will still be paid if a claim is submitted by the owner or their heirs,” she told the media after officiating the launch of the MADANI Adopted Village (KAM) programme by JANM at Kampung Bukit Merah today.

Zainani added that the department has never appointed any agents or representatives to claim the money on behalf of claimants.

“Besides organising activities at government programmes or carnivals, we also provide a mobile bus that will travel across the country to facilitate the public in checking their unclaimed money,” she said.

Meanwhile, Zainani said the KAM programme in Kampung Bukit Merah is a continuation of a project that began in 2024 in Nanga Tebat, Lubok Antu, Sarawak, followed by Kampung Minyak Beku in Batu Pahat, Johor, in 2025.

In 2026, Kampung Bukit Merah in Tanah Merah, Kelantan, was approved as JANM’s KAM by the Ministry of Finance and will be upgraded with an allocation of RM500,000.

“With the approved allocation, upgrading works can be carried out in a planned and efficient manner so that the facilities can be fully utilised by the local community.

“Among the projects discussed are improvements to facilities and infrastructure at Masjid Al Iktikaf Ibnu Sina and Masjid Iktikaf Pakteh, the purchase of a cabin for the Rukun Tetangga team, repairs to village roads, drain widening, installation of solar-powered street lights, and repairs to water channels,” she said.
